Kampot was Cambodia's key seaport before the establishment of Sihanoukville. It is replete with 19th century French architecture. The Old Town of Kampot is currently awaiting admission to the UNESCO World Heritage Site list.
The region is known for its distinctive pepper, which is exported worldwide. Other renowned produce includes sea salt, fish sauce, and durian.
